Discovering Your Potential

The Center for Self-Actualization, Inc. goal is to assist you in fulfilling your potential. However, you must first know what is your potential, before your potential can be fulfilled. So, how do you discover your potential? How do you know your God given abilities and talents? The fact is we all know, on some level, our true potential. Yet, the majority has blocked this awareness from their conscious minds.

In our country, due to the overwhelming need for economic stability, family, social and societal pressures, many have forgotten their God given abilities. Thus, the majority of people are working in fields or activities that do not represent their true potential. It is our goal to assist people to once again remember that they have a special gift to offer to the world and then to assist them in fulfilling that gift.

Since we all know our true potential on some level the task is removing the barriers that are blocking it from conscious awareness. Once the blockages are released, one’s innate abilities should be at the forefront of his/her mind. Blockages are self-induced limiting thoughts and beliefs.
They are thoughts and beliefs that are conceived as true through years of conditioning. The idea is to remove limiting beliefs, which will allow the true self to come to the surface.

Releasing Blockages to Your Potential

The key to self-actualization is using your True Potential. Let’s examine some blockages that might be standing between you and your innate gifts.

Perception of Self
One blockage that might be stopping you from knowing your true potential is your belief about self. We all have a perception or belief about self. This belief could have been formed at any time. Negative self-images will cause a blockage between you and your true potential. Often negative situations or the perceptions of others have helped to define a less than positive belief about self. This belief is often a limited perception, which becomes a blockage from ones innate gifts. So, to discover your true potential, you must first look at what you believe about self, and why you believe it. Once you have identified what you believe, your next task is to rid yourself of limiting perceptions. By releasing false beliefs you are clearing a path so you can honestly see your true self.

Compromise for Money
Another blockage that tends to stand between one and his true potential is his/her belief about money. The general perception of the masses is that you have to work a job, any job, in order to take care of yourself. Yes, while money is needed in our society in order to live comfortable, you still don’t have to compromise your true potential. You don’t have to push your potential under a rug until a brighter day. You can utilize your potential and still create economic stability in your life.

For example, a friend who was an aspiring actress was told numerous times by her family members that she was wasting her time. They told her over and over to get a job and give up on her dream. Luckily she knew she had real acting ability; she also knew that she was capable of being very successful in that field. So, instead of accepting the beliefs of her family members and creating a blockage, she moved to Hollywood, California. Now she is an actress and actually makes more money than any other family member. She has had roles in numerous movies and has even had her own television show. My friend didn’t become a victim to negative thinking, nor did she compromise herself for money. Instead she recognized her potential and sought out to fulfill it, despite the thoughts and feelings of those closest to her.

Your Current Environment
Another major blockage to identifying your true potential is current living conditions. You might, right now, be living in conditions that are blocking you from discovering your potential. You might be in a negative environment or may be surrounded by negative people. The mind’s prime objective in negative environments is to survive. Being in the survival mode means that your primary focus is on the most basic elements in life: safety, shelter, food and clothing. In the survival mode, you are locked in the lower level of thought, which can consume your awaken hours and thus, places your true potential far from your conscious mind.

If you are in this place of survival, your mission is to examine what it will take to move you out of this mode. Sometimes it takes moving to another community, it might take going back to school or it could take leaving a dead-end relationship. Whatever it takes to move you beyond survival mode are critical steps that must be taken to discover your God given potential. In the world we live in there is no need to just survive, the ability to prosper is available for all. Yet, you might have to change external conditions to allow this prosperity to come into form.

Without question, we all have a purpose or reason for being. We fulfill this purpose by using our innate abilities or true potential. Our true potential is something that arrived with us on birth. It is something that is ingrained in our very soul. However, due to life conditioning many have created a block between their conscious mind and their potential. The objective is to release negative or limiting blockages to allow rediscovery. Once your true potential is rediscovered it is your responsibility to develop it and utilize it to its fullest.

Your wealth and complete fulfillment lies in your ability to use that which God has given to you freely, and that is your innate abilities, talents or your True Potential. If you don’t have all that you want. If you don’t have the money you desire. If you don’t have the zest for life you require, then you are more than likely not using your True Potential. Fulfillment on all levels lies within your True Potential!
